Women’s employment in the trucking industry is important and that is what was celebrated at this year’s Accelerate! Conference.

Men have traditionally been at the forefront of trucking, occupying all positions from drivers to board members, but this is changing. There is power and strength in diversity, and the Women in Trucking Association is working to encourage women’s employment in the trucking industry, promote their accomplishments, and minimize the obstacles women face in the industry.

Representation matters, and that is what was celebrated at this year’s Accelerate! Conference and Expo by the Women in Trucking Association, which took place on November 13th – 16th at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas, TX.  Hubtek’s Product Manager, Paola Muñoz, and Sales Leader, Carolina Muñoz, had the opportunity to attend the conference and connect with other women who are making an impact in the logistics industry.

A wide range of topics were covered during the 4-day conference, with over 100 thought leaders and subject matter experts sharing their insights on the challenges and opportunities for women in the industry. Attendees were also able to experience the Truck & Technology Tour which featured cabs, trailers, self-driving trucks, Big Data and AI technology, IoT devices and platforms, TMS, and WMS.

The conference offered amazing networking opportunities, such as speed networking, workshops, receptions, interactive roundtable discussions and expo time, where attendees were able to make meaningful connections and build relationships.

It’s exciting to see that, in the past few years, the role of women has grown, not only in administrative positions but also in operational ones. Women are excelling in all positions, from drivers to executive directors, owners, and mechanics. There’s still work to be done and the road ahead is not easy, as the challenges faced by women in this industry stem mainly from gender stereotypes associated with it. It is imperative that we continue to work together toward shedding these outdated and harmful stereotypes and continue to embrace diversity and the strength that comes with it.
